On May 1st 1868, newspapers throughout North Carolina reported on the highly questionable public hanging of a twenty-two year old convicted murderer. Since the execution, many questions have been raised, and a great amount of speculation regarding the man, and the murder he was accused of, has surfaced.
Over the years, several stories about the events leading up to his conviction, and the aftermath of the execution, has continued to be told and retold.
